Welcome to Fundesem International

Prepare to be enlightened by news and views at an international level, as this UPDATE edition brings out our Business School´s latest treat: Fundesem International.

Our experience here at FUNDESEM Business School has revealed the high contribution that students from different nationalities always have when it comes to the enrichment of the study environment. Moreover, given that the business arena is no longer confined to a company’s homeland, due to current trends and needs, most of the companies are now facing a broad internationalization process. The Department of International Relations successfully responds to these challenges by providing the students with highly competitive Master programs, not only in Spanish, but in English too, fact that insures various multicultural interactions with positive consequences in the professional field.

The Innovator's Dilemma: The Revolutionary Book

The Innovator´s Dilemma

The Revolutionary Book that Will Change the Way You Do Business, by Clayton M. Christensen

Two of the most prestigious International Business publications recommend this US National Bestseller as a must-read, given its realistic, yet sometimes intriguing excursions into the managerial business spectrum. While being “a handbook for CEOs remaking their businesses for the NET” (Business Week), “this book ought to chill any executive who feels bulletproof – and inspire entrepreneurs aiming their guns.” (Forbes)

By referring to high-end companies like Microsoft, Intel, General Motors, Toyota and many more, Christensen points out the imperative necessity of exploring new and emerging markets, while responding to future or unstated customer needs. Although the general tendency is to invest in established markets and commit to meeting present needs, a phenomenon called “disruptive technology”, the current market challenges require a close study of both past and future potential changes. “Simply put, when the best firms succeeded, they did so because they listened responsively to their customers and invested aggressively in the technology, products, and manufacturing capabilities that satisfied their customers´ next-generation needs. But paradoxically, when the best firms subsequently failed, it was for the same reasons – they listened responsively to their customers and invested aggressively in the technology, products, and manufacturing capabilities that satisfied their customers´ next-generation needs. This is one of the innovator´s dilemmas: Blindly following the maxim that good managers should keep close to their customers can sometimes be a fatal mistake.” (Christensen)

Avatars in the Workplace

The movie Avatar is a stunning and vivid depiction of a fantasy world unimaginable without serious help from a visionary director, 1,000 special effects artists, a $300M budget and a pair of 3D glasses. But there's one feature of the movie that's more realistic than you may think: the idea of using avatars in the workplace. In the film, protagonist Jake Sully, a paraplegic ex-Marine, is assigned to field duty assuming the form of an alien Na'vi on the moon Pandora.
